With and Without – Com / Sem

“Com” means with. See the examples.

Examples:

• Eu trabalho com ele. I work with him.

“Sem” means without. See the examples.

Examples:

• Eu prefiro chá sem açúcar. I prefer tea without (with no) sugar.

Since– Desde

The preposition "desde" means since. See the examples below:

Examples:

• Não vejo meus pais desde 2000. I haven’t seen my parents since 2000.

• Ele estão juntos desde novembro passado. They have been together since last November.

About – Sobre

The preposition "sobre" means about.

Examples:

• Eu falei muito sobre você. I talked a lot about you.

• O que você quer saber sobre isso? What do you want to know about it?

Before – Antes

The preposition "antes" means before.

Examples:

• Precisamos lavar as mãos antes de comer. We need to wash the handsbefore eating.

• Antes de viajar vou cortar o cabelo. Before traveling I’m going to have a hair cut.

After– Após

The preposition "após" means after.

Examples:

• Após o jogo vamos jantar fora. After the game we’re going to eat out.

• Após o trabalho vou fazer ginástica. After work I’m going to work out.

Until / As far as - Até

Até means “until” and “as far as”, but this preposition is also used in some idiomatic expressions.

Examples:

• Eu vou terminar este trabalho até o final do ano. I’m going to finish this

work until the end of the year.

• Nós dirigimos até o Rio de Janeiro. We drove as far as Rio.

Some expressions using Até

• Até amanhã. See you tomorrow.

• Até mais tarde. See later.

• Até logo. See you soon

• Até já. See you soon

• Até que enfim! Finally!
